Have you ever been sharing a story and have your conversation partner cut you off mid-sentence to tell you about something going on with them? Or perhaps you share an issue with a colleague or friend and without any knowledge of the context they start to tell you what you should do to solve it? You nod along and thank them for their advice but inside you’re SCREAMING. Their intentions were good, but the reality is they weren’t listening.

These are just a few examples of unconscious ego driven behaviors that show up in our conversations every day. And while it’s pretty easy to see them in others, it’s much more difficult to become aware of our own. But the key word here is UNCONSCIOUS. We’re not trying to be bad listeners, we’re just human and sometimes unaware of the impact that we are having on each other. In this online session we’ll walk through some of the common ways that our egos show up in conversations, introduce practices for becoming aware of our own egoic behaviors, and share resources for listening to others without making it about you. We’ll explore how awareness of our own listening challenges is a gateway to having compassion for others.

What We’ll Cover:

  • How Ego shows up in our listening
  • How to laugh at our mistakes, rather than get defensive
  • Common Listening Mistakes and Alternatives
  • Tools for identifying ego behaviors in yourself and others
  • Cultivating Relentless Compassion
