SUMMARY:Transformational Listening Series: 4 Sessions Covering the Basics of JUST Listening
DESCRIPTION:This JUST Listening series teaches skills for building relationships grounded in trust\, empathy\, and understanding. Over the course of 4 sessions\, participants improve listening and communication skills by cultivating awareness of common communication challenges and ego-driven behaviors and practicing skills for listening with intention\, to ourselves and others\, and responding with humility and curiosity. \nOur methodology is grounded in self-reflection and awareness based-systems change. We provide weekly self-reflection activities to encourage self-awareness of personal communication challenges and emphasize the importance of micro-practices-small\, intentional actions that\, when practiced consistently\, lead to transformational change.  \nSessions provide an overview of relevant research on human behavior and neurobiology as well as opportunities to practice listening and communication skills in a caring environment. Participants leave with practical tools for building relationships\, supporting decision-making\, and responding peacefully in the context of conflict. \nThe workshop will be delivered in a series of four 1.5-hour online sessions taking place Wednesdays 10-11:30am EST.  \nWhat We’ll Cover: \n\nJuly 8 – Session 1: What Gets in the Way of Our Listening? : Empathy\, Othering\, & Perception  \n\nThe physiology of empathy & othering\nUnderstanding how our empathy is activated\nThe role of empathy and primal brain responses in our current context \nTools & Micro-practices for reflection rather than reactivity\n\n\n\n\nJuly 15 – Session 2:  Listening Filters \n\nOverview of the Listening Filters that distort what we hear\nTools & Contemplative Micro-practices for Overcoming Listening Hurdles\nOpportunities to practice cultivating awareness of filters\n\n\n\n\nJuly 22 – Session 3: From Division to Dialogue\n\nResearch about the emotional and psychological aspects connected to beliefs and values\nTools for turning down the temperature in heated conversations and connecting on a deeply human level\, even amidst disagreement.\nTools for engaging perspectives that differ from our own and expressing our own views effectively\, transforming potentially divisive encounters into meaningful exchanges.\n\n\n\n\nJuly 29 – Session 4: Responding Wholeheartedly to Others\n\nThe importance of knowing what conversation we are in\nGuidelines for engaging in dialogue\nOpen and Strategic questioning- tools for supporting decision making without imposing our ego

SUMMARY:Community\, Connection\, and Healing Circle
DESCRIPTION:Would you like to connect with others and build community during these challenging times? \nJoin us for a “round” of Community Connection and Healing (CCH). These monthly gatherings are a space where we listen\, share our experiences with one another\, and leave feeling grounded and supported with tools and resources to carry us forward. CCH Conversations offer a safer space to listen to each other\, talk about our problems\, concerns\, difficulties\, and achievements. \nBy sharing our stories and listening to the stories of others\, we sow the seeds of community. \nWe’ll structure our conversation using ICT methodology\, a model developed in Brazil to create safer spaces where we can truly connect and promote healing by surfacing the wisdom of the group. Our trained facilitators will set some ground rules for the discussion and then invite the group to listen and share.  \nThis is a pay what you wish event\, so contribute what you can! Contributions allow us to continue offering programming that is accessible\, regardless of income.

SUMMARY:When is Listening the Best Approach and When is it Not?
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the annual convention of the International Listening Association as we explore the topic: \nWhen is Listening the Best Approach\, and When is it Not?  \nWe like to think of listening as this pure\, uncomplicated good—something that always helps\, always heals. But out in the real world\, it isn’t always that simple. There are moments when listening feels like opening a door we’re not sure we should walk through. Moments when someone wants to hand us a story we may not be able to carry. Moments when listening could quietly validate harm\, or blur a boundary\, or take us somewhere we didn’t consent to go. This session sits gently inside those uncomfortable moments. Together\, we’ll explore the questions most of us don’t say out loud: Should I listen to this right now? Is this mine to hear? What responsibility comes with knowing someone else’s truth? Think of this as a space to wonder together about the roles of vulnerability and discernment in our listening practice\, and how to balance them. Expect to engage in conversation about the ethics of listening with more curiosity than certainty. \nParticipants will leave with a deeper sense of the weight and wonder of listening\, and a clearer understanding of how to show up with integrity when someone asks\, silently or directly\, “Will you listen to me?” \nView the full program and register for this year’s online ILA Convention at listen.org

SUMMARY:American Village
DESCRIPTION:American Village is an opportunity to create and dissolve a community in real time. The process has one underlying assumption: America is still forming and each of us who lives here can contribute to that forming. As we explore through this group movement practice\, we live into the questions: \n  \nWhat kind of America might we create together\, 10 minutes at a time? \n  \nHow do we feel about what we have created together? \n  \nWhat might we learn about our inner world\, how we connect to others\, and the larger implications of what we see in our temporary social field? \n  \nThrough our actions and nonactions\, we are always creating the future\, so how might we practice becoming more aware of that in our daily lives? \n  \nUtilizing elements of Social Presencing Theater and Theory U\, participants will engage in movement and embodiment practices that reawaken our ability to sense ourselves as integral elements of an interconnected eco-system\, with power to create shifts in ourselves that ripple throughout our organizations\, communities\, and the larger world. Expect to spend time connecting to your body and becoming aware of authentic impulses for movement. \n  \nAmerican Village is a part of the Philadelphia Fringe festival. SUMMARY:From Division to Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:The ability to listen with empathy and understanding is more crucial than ever. Many of us find ourselves frustrated and disheartened by conversations that feel more like battlegrounds than opportunities for understanding. 66% of Americans say that when discussing issues with those with whom they disagree\, people are “quick to attack them.” Only 24% say people are “quick to listen.” What if you could change that\, one conversation at a time? \nWhether you’re a community leader\, a concerned citizen\, or simply looking to bridge gaps in your own circles\, this session will equip you with skills to transform challenging interactions into opportunities for empathy\, understanding\, and connection\, supporting a shift from division to dialogue. \nWhat We’ll Cover:\n● Cultivating Empathy in Conversations: Gain insights into the emotional and psychological aspects connected to political beliefs\, and learn how to connect on a deeply human level\, even amidst disagreement. \n● JUST Listening Skills: Learn how to genuinely hear perspectives that differ from our own and avoid getting hooked into unconscious responses by cultivating presence and awareness in conversations \n● Tools for turning down the temperature: Equip ourselves with practical tools to manage and diffuse heated discussions\, ensuring our conversations remain constructive and honor our common humanity \n● Responding\, not Reacting: Learn how to express our own views mindfully and effectively\, transforming potentially divisive encounters into meaningful exchanges. \nThis session will provide an overview of relevant research on human behavior and neurobiology as well as opportunities to practice listening and communication skills in a caring environment. Participants leave with practical tools for activating empathy in daily interactions and responding peacefully in the context of conflict. \nTo Register visit the Franciscan Spiritual Center
