Listening is an act of justice

Why Listening?

Listening is not another tool in the communication toolbox; it is foundational to all personal, organizational, and social change when it is done justly and equitably. Listening deeply and without ego to each others' ideas, insights, and experiences enhances personal relationships, professional collaborations, workplace efficiency, and social transformation efforts.

Just listening begins with cultivating awareness of the thoughts, emotions, insights, and physical sensations that influence how we respond in our daily interactions. When we become conscious of ourselves and what is happening internally, we can use that information to make deliberate choices about how to respond in any situation, rather than react automatically.

I suspect that the most basic and powerful way to connect to another person is to listen. Just listen. Perhaps the most important thing we ever give each other is our attention.
